Beauty News: A New Perfume Provides a Breath of Fresh Air
Issey Miyake's latest fragrance is nature in a bottle

Perfumer Daphné Bugey was initially flummoxed when Issey Miyake asked her to create a fragrance that would be, simply, "air that smells good." Pair this with the precedent set by Miyake's first scent, L'Eau d'Issey, which remains a worldwide favorite 17 years after its introduction, and you've got a tall order indeed. Bugey, however, proved herself more than up to the task. The green, woodsy accord of A Scent By Issey Miyake draws inspiration from the cedar forests of Japan as well as the whiff of a breeze blowing across a meadow (the lab's code name for the fragrance was And Suddenly a Valley) to produce an effect that is as heavenly as a breath of country air. Bright hyacinth and lemon verbena notes are deepened by an oak-moss-and-musk base and enlivened by a trail of jasmine. "That's the surprise: the unexpected opulent floral notes underneath the green
